Bird Mobile

Remember when birds were all the rage?  Owls, sparrows, bluebirds...they just seemed to be on everything crafty.  I'm a little late to join the party but I made a bird mobile.  I really did it because it goes with the theme of the room.  I love how it turned out. 

When a fan or the A/C is running each branch will begin to circle independent of the others.  I attached the branches using clear fishing string.  I found the idea here at Homemade by Jill.

Child of God

When I finish a doll and the extension to the curtains I will finally post a picture of the baby's room with all the details.  For now here is something I made for my little girl.

Easter Ruffles

I made Easter outfits for my two cuties and I'm now finally getting my daughter's pictures up.  Here she is! 

I was inspired by Dana's ruffled skirt but went my own route on constructing it.  I liked her construction but it didn't make sense for a baby who won't be twirling around in it. 

There you have it!  More seersucker love later. 

The t-shirt dress and the "mini skirt"

 My husband says I look Amish in this picture above.  Ha!  I totally do.  

I've never worked with knit so while my mother-in-law was in town she showed me how to work with knit on my sewing machine by making me this dress.  It's a dress I've been wanting to create.  It's t-shirt sewn to some jersey knit material.  My machine doesn't have a place for a double needle but she was able to make it work with basting stitches and zig zag stitches.

The T-Shirt Dress

  I looked weirder in my smiling pictures so I'm stuck with this one.  

 The mini skirt

After cutting the t-shirt I had the bottom half left-over.  Luckily I have a mini person in my household right now and I used the left-over t-shirt to make my first knit project.  The hem was already taken care of so it was really just doing a casing and I left some space at the top for the "paper bag" effect.

Feeling Crafty

I've had this insecurity for making gifts for friends.  I will make things for my family on occasion but I'm always nervous about making something for a friend because what if they think it is lame?!  Well after receiving so many cute homemade gifts at my baby shower I decided I would make a gift for a friend.  This friend just had a baby girl in January and is such an amazing person.  She is a woman of so many trades but doesn't really like to get crafty so I decided to make something for her little girl.  Since she has two older boys she loves dressing her little girl in a lot of pink so I stuck with pink things.

I made these three hair clips all in different shades of pink.  

 As well as a frilly, pink tutu.

Embroidery Hoops Wall Art

My baby girl's room is coming along.  I want to eventually post pictures of the completed room.  I still have a few last touches but I think I should have it complete enough to post by the end of February.

I saw this idea on Pinterest.  

A corner in the baby's room

Getting the energy to get all my projects done for the baby's room has been a challenge.  If I can get the mobile done I'll be thrilled.  Here is a corner of the room..  I think I'll add a basket with books in it eventually.

First Mod Podge Projects

This week for craft night we did mod podge projects. I wanted to do my son's name and some blocks. I bought everything at Hobby Lobby.

I used hard mod podge for the blocks. I still need to do some sanding and it will take 4 weeks for the mod podge to cure all the way. I love them though!

Hooter Hider aka Nursing Cover

This craft was also done with some friends. I first saw the idea on the blog Little Birdie Secrets. However, we used a combination of patterns and did the easiest method to get the job done. My nursing cover now has a permanent home in my diaper bag. Please excuse the wrinkles.

Baby Shower Word Game

We all have played those baby shower games. I'm not sure why they always have to be cheesy but they usually are. I was planning a baby shower and I made up a baby shower game that is just a combination of games I like to play. Word games.

Instructions:

Have different letters written down on different pieces of paper in front of the group.

Ask the guest of honor to select a letter.

On the back of the letter, write a word that starts with that letter. An example would be R is for baby registry or P is for popular baby names.

Give all the guests 1 minute to write down as many objects or things they can think of associated with that word or phrase the word is in.

When time is up each guest reads off what they wrote. If someone else in the group wrote down the same word they each get one point. If several people get the same word each of them still get one point and no additional points.

If you wrote down something that nobody else has than you don't get any points.

The object of the game is to get the most points by writing down words you think other people will think of.

Here are some ideas:

P is for Pregnancy symptoms

D is for objects in a Diaper bag

M is for milestones

F is for first baby Foods

H is for household Hazards when baby starts to walk or crawl

S is for getting baby to Sleep techniques

B is for things associated with Bath time

I is for baby Items you will go back to the store for time and time again.

C is for pregnant women food Cravings.

You could use this concept for bridal showers or general topics as well.

Halloween dog costume refashioned for a baby

And because I love when families have a costume theme here is our take on the fable the Tortoise and the Hare.

To make this costume suitable for a baby we took off the Turtle arms and velcro strap that is supposed to go around the dog. Then we bought a turtle neck and attached velcro to the back of that as well as the turtle shell. Added some pants and baby legs for warmth and viola you have a turtle costume!

Diaper Cake

I threw a baby shower for a friend and decided to try making a diaper cake. I found it online at a blog called Homemade by Jill. You can find the tutorial here.

During my pregnancy my office threw me a surprise baby shower! It was sooo sweet. One of the girls I worked with has a mom that does these diaper cakes. Here is the one she gave me (the items got a shifted around from my office to my apartment). I didn't even think of sticking little baby items everywhere. What a clever idea. I'll have to try that in the future.

Impressive huh! I had to honor my creative husband. The first picture is one of the many sketches he drew for a book we made for our son. The second picture is a Dr. Seuss iron-on shirt he made. He also did a really cute Harold and the Purple Crayon one. The last is a picture of a airplane mobile he made. The only name I remember is the stealth bomber. He printed off pictures from the internet and then attached them on strings to wooden doles. The picture is printed on both sides. I'm lucky to have him!

Rise and Shout the Cougars are Out

I happened upon some of my college alumni fabric at Hancocks so I had to buy it! I made a tie quilt with it. My mom made this cute baby cougar applique to go in the corner.

Another easy baby craft I found on a blog called Make It and Love It. I love easy sewing projects. I even have a cute model to show them off.

The taggie blanket phenomenon

I've seen these taggie blankets everywhere so I had to make one for myself. I enlisted a couple pregnant friends to join me and we had a craft night making them. I've learned crafts are so much more fun when friends are involved. It was a two night craft. First we went out to pick out our fabric and ribbons at Hancocks Fabric. The following week we got together to sew our blankets. Here are our finished products.

I found this awesome book called Sock and Glove by Miyako Kanamoir. It uses these socks and gloves to come up with adorable stuffed animals. I did a dog and elephant. These projects did take me longer than I anticipated because a lot of hand sewing is involved. Eventually I would like to make more!
